TitleSports and Social Club
Reference numberPAS/BP/7/22
Datec.1920-2008
Admin/Biograhical HistoryThe Sports Club dates back to 1910, and was for many years known as 'Westwood Works Sports Club'. In 1919 it bought land in Alma Road for its sports ground, having used different locations prior to this. In 1938 the Alma Road premises were officially opened as the headquarters of the Club. Over the years the clubhouse and sporting facilities were much enhanced and improved to become a highly respected venue for sport and social events.

The earlier company vision of the importance of sports and leisure facilities for its employees continued right through until Baker Perkins was taken over by APV in 1987. It was not long after this that the decision was made to close and sell the Sports and Social Club, and the doors were closed for the final time on 30 April 1991. (See PAS/BP/7/22/36)
